Globalization and Social Policy

Criticizing the portrayal of globalization as a techno-economic, naturalistic, and inevitable force, Yeates (social policy, Queen's U., Northern Ireland) argues that questions of political agency and social conflict are crucial to the understanding of globalization's impact on social policy as both academic field and political practice. She further contends that the field of social policy has failed to expand traditional national levels of analysis. She attempts to address both of these problems in chapters examining the empirical trends associated with globalization; the relationship between capital and national states; international regimes governing capital, people, and development; and issues of social conflict and political struggle.
