The Right to Privacy in the Home: The Third Amendment

Under British rule, soldiers could show up at any American colonist's doorstep and demand shelter, food, and anything else they needed. If colonists didn't agree, they would be punished by the military. After the Revolutionary War, the Founding Fathers decided that no one should have to suffer such abuses again. The Third Amendment ensures that American citizens can never be forced to feed or house soldiers in times of peace.
