Nader Naderpour (1929-2000), Iranian Poet, Thinker, Patriot

Tehran native Mafie studied under Naderpour in the US for over a decade, and remained a close friend until the poet's death. Naderpour (1929-2000) was a Nobel nominee in literature, and a 1993 recipient of a Human Rights Watch Organization award for writers in exile whose works are banned in their homelands. Mafie introduces the life and work of the Iranian poet he considers arguable the most important of the 20th century. After a biographical sketch drawing from insights of his widow and his best friend, a selection of five essays explore his views on modern Persian poetry and poets, and several dozen poems provide a sample his work.
