The Gospels of the New Testament describing the life of Jesus Christ have provided a rich source of inspiration to artists throughout the centuries.

Mark's Gospel was the first to be written and tells the remarkable story of the life of Christ: Jesus' baptism by John the Baptist, and his temptation in the wilderness by Satan; the calling of the twelve apostles, and Jesus' preaching through parables; the many miracles of Jesus, from the feeding of the five thousand to walking on water and healing the sick; and the story of the Passion of Christ, from Judas' betrayal of Jesus with a kiss, to Christ's crucifixion and resurrection.
