WAC for the New Millennium: Strategies for Continuing Writing-across-the-Curriculum Programs

Writing-across-the-curriculum, or WAC programs, which began in the mid-1970s, are the subject of this group of a dozen essays by WAC participants and advocates. The difficulties that universities face from budget constraints are referred to in the introduction; many of these papers emphasize WAC's flexibility to survive cuts. Innovative ideas include new avenues of collaboration, such as service learning and link-course curricula. Other topics include ESL, electronic communication, writing intensive courses, and a critique of naturalistic studies.
