Beginning with a discussion of the origins of the universe and covering the usual periods, this study attempts to answer the question: How did the major institutions of Western Civilization develop to the position they hold today? This volume includes discoveries by anthropologists. It also uses terms of the social sciences to show how institutions began as answers to human needs.
