Uganda: The Challenge of Growth and Poverty Reduction

This country economic memorandum takes stock of the outcome of reforms in Uganda and defines the next generation of issues that Uganda must address in its medium-and long-term strategy for poverty reduction. The thrust of this strategy is the promotion of broad-based economic growth and increased investment in human resource development. The report first analyzes the medium-term macroeconomic policy agenda with the objective of sustaining and strengthening macroeconomic stability which is a necessary condition for growth and poverty reduction. It then reviews the prospects for steady economic growth. Finally, a poverty update analyzes the status of and changes in poverty during the adjustment period.
