Serenading Louie

Two young, suburban couples, friends of long standing, are suddenly aware of the strains and pressures that have inexorably come into their lives. Adultery is one of these - a fact for one of the wives, and an imminent possiblility for one of the husbands. As the couples come together to examine their plight and to probe the genesis of their unhappiness, the play moves deftly in and out of reality, with the characters sometimes talking to each other and sometimes directly to the audience. Ultimately, out of a mosaic of fascinating conversations, comes new and liberating knowledge about the loneliness that exists in marriage and about how individuals must make a crucial commitment if they truly and effectively are to share in each other's lives.
