The Perils of Protest: State Repression and Student Activism in China and Taiwan

Wright examines two student movements—the 1989 movement in China and the 1990 movement in Taiwan—and seeks to explain their different outcomes. Chapters discuss the two movements separately, and compare the political environment of students in the two countries. Appendixes list the autonomous student organizations in the two countries and contains the text of the class boycott proposal. Wright teaches political science at California State University, Long Beach.
