Fundamentals of Collection Development and Management

Johnson, a librarian at the U. of Minnesota and editor of Technicalities; Information Forum for the Library Services Practitioner, has written a lucid text on the basic concepts of this broad subject. Theoretical concepts are included but not stressed as heavily as information and skills. An initial chapter provides the history of collection management and development and gives a succinct overview of the field. Subsequent chapters describe topics that include organization and staffing, budgets and planning, marketing, electronic resources, and cooperative collection development and management.
