Literacy and Libraries: Learning from Case Studies

Contributions from library directors, program administrators, tutors, librarians, and adult learners offer insight on adult literacy programs in libraries. Early chapters provide an empirical framework for examining adult literacy in libraries, while subsequent chapters tell the stories of program staff in large and small libraries, in urban and rural communities, meeting the educational needs of English-language speakers and speakers of other languages. Other chapters explore the integration of technology into literacy programs, and trace the history of libraries and adult literacy. The editor spent 10 years as a public librarian.
