A Little House on Mount Carmel

During the period described in this memoir (1939-1947), Blumstein's home city of Grodno was annexed to the Soviet Union in the partition of Poland, invaded by the Nazi military, and eventually retaken by the Soviet Army. Only nine years old in 1939, Blumstein, along with his parents, was one of the very few Polish Jews to survive the Holocaust. He describes experiences of Polish anti-Semitism, the growing awareness to the threat posed by the Nazis, and the aid the family received from Polish Christians helping them to hide from the Germans.
