The Persistence of Presentism and the Struggle to Secure Lasting Educational Improvement

It has been said that teaching is characterized by three interlocking and self confirming orientations–presentism, individualism and conservatism. Over the last decade, there has been a sustained assault on individualism but there has been no such attention to presentism. Why is this? What are the consequences? What should be done? Drawing on his own recent research evidence from England, these are the challenging questions that Professor Hargreaves addresses in his lecture.
