Life B'long Ali Drummond: A life in the Torres Strait

The story of the author’s grandfather, one of the few Torres Strait Islander elders who lived through the height of the pearling era, Ali Drummond has had an extraordinary life, by any standards. Orphaned when young, he took to a life at sea at age 14 and applied himself to learning the skills he needed to survive and prosper in a sometimes dangerous life seeking pearl shells, eventually becoming an expert diver and skipper himself.
