Advances in Group Processes publishes theoretical analyses, reviews, and theory-based empirical chapters on group phenomena. In this volume scholars from various disciplines address a range of phenomena related to group processes in a very general sense. The specific topics addressed in this volume include (i) a new modular integration of social influence network theory and status characteristics theory, (ii) how and when collective ritual events trigger positive emotions and group solidarity, (iii) whether or not group reflexivity has any positive impact on group performance, (iv) an examination of trust as a rational instrumental act versus an expressive more relational act, (v) a theoretical analysis of the impact of independence and competition on group creativity, (vi) a status-based account of how racial/ethnic misclassification impacts mental and physical well-being, (vii) a new conceptualization and test of comparison process in exchange relations, (viii) strong power dynamics in large complex exchange networks, (ix) how social exchange principles can help illuminate overlapping or multiplex exchange relations, and (x) an analysis of corrupt social relations relying on classic concepts from social exchange theory.
