On Actors and Acting

Thomson (drama, U. of Exeter) provides a scholarly but accessible study for anyone curious about acting and the theater, and covering the full range—from the Elizabethan age, through eighteenth and nineteenth century England, and into the new century. The study uses articles and illustrations from a variety of sources, touching on the acting careers of notables including Samuel Foote, Ben Kingsley, and Richard and Mary Ann Yates.
