The first settlers came to the shores of what would become the state of Maryland in 1634. Eventually there would be twenty-three counties in the state. Four counties of Maryland's lower Eastern Shore are the topics of this volume: Somerset, Dorchester, Worcester, and Wicomico. The first few chapters deal with the region in general: its geography, climate, wildlife, plants, and history. Later chapters describe what is unique about each of the counties: its establishment, growth, government, major towns, churches and religion, education and schools, businesses, industries, agriculture, natural resources, places of interest, parks, and recreational areas. Especially interesting are the details on "fascinating folks" who live in each county.
