Place Matters: Geospatial Tools for Marine Science, Conservation, and Management in the Pacific Northwest

Wright (geography and oceanography, Oregon State University) and Scholz (Knowledge Systems for Ecotrust) look at how the marine geographic information system (GIS) can contribute to ocean and shore conservation in the Pacific Northwest. Contributors show how they are using GIS to exploit present and future data streams from observatories, experiments, numerical models, simulations, and other sources. In addition to a conceptual framework of selected methods for conservation-based marine GIS, the book offers working examples of marine GIS tools and implementations, and a section on the use of GIS by environmental advocacy and citizen organizations.
