Proceedings of a session on timber engineering at the ASCE National Convention, held in Dallas, Texas, October 24-28, 1993.
This collection contains four papers on issues relevant to the use of wood in construction. As timber engineering moves into the 21st century, it is faced with challenges from technology, government mandates, and environmental concerns. Engineers are asked to build timber structures of the future. Topics include: using multistory wood-framed construction to produce affordable housing; maintaining structural integrity during exposure to fire; developing a load and resistance factor design specification for engineers; and using wood to protect the environment.
