Life / Faith is a concise overview of key concepts in Emanuel Swedenborg's theology: regeneration, faith, and good will. Life refers not to our life on earth but our life as a spiritual person, which begins at birth and continues in the afterlife. It focuses on the concept of regeneration, or spiritual rebirth, as a process of consciously rejecting our own destructive impulses and internalizing love and goodness. In Faith, Swedenborg emphasizes that faith—a love of goodness—cannot be separated from the manifestation of that love, a concept often translated as charity or goodwill. A person must not only love others but perform good actions solely because of that love in order to truly be a good person.
This new translation is part of the New Century Edition of the Works of Emanuel Swedenborg, an ongoing translation series that incorporates the latest scholarship and translation standards for a more accurate and accessible rendering of Swedenborg's works.
