This anthology contains translations of 22 works that reflect the mixture of modernism and traditionalism that characterized Japanese literature and film between the end of World War II and the mid- 1970s. This revised edition contains a new preface by Hibbett (Japanese literature, Harvard, emeritus). The authors represented include Kanai Mieko, Kurosawa Akira and Mishima Yukio.
