People, Places and Sustainability

Coming from the fields of psychology, sociology, urban planning, architecture, and design, 26 papers are drawn from the July 2000 conference in people- environment studies, which was subtitled "Cities, social life and sustainability, which perspectives for the 21st century?" The papers seek to situate traditional people- environment issues within a temporal intercultural and transcultural perspective, specifically addressing the question of sustainability. The papers are organized into four sections: urban change and sustainability; community, attachment, and identity; proximal and specific spaces; and global environment issues and ecological behavior.
