Blackbird Song

Readers familiar with Lundy’s earlier work will find much they recognize: poems that remember friends and relatives, often absent or deceased; a longing for solace, peace, and possible healing; imagery that includes rocks, water, trees, birds, and animals as constant presences in human life; and a desire and reaching for the spirit that connects all creatures.

While the poems, for the most part, do not directly deal in tropes familiar to readers of Indigenous poetry—identity, residential schools, poverty and its effects, etc.—the voice and vision, the philosophy inherent in the poems, is most certainly Indigenous.
