The New York Apartment Houses of Rosario Candela and James Carpenter

An exploration of blocks of apartment buildings in the city designed by two relatively unknown architects. Alpern, an architectural historian, explains how the buildings, built during the 1920s and located along Park and Fifth Avenues as well as in other areas of Manhattan, exhibit a consistent quality that has never been surpassed. After the substantial introduction and essays by an architect and a historian, minimal text accompanies monochrome photographs and floor plans of the buildings themselves.
