The Cultivation of Weeds

The country reels with unrest from a postwar economic slump. Ed Grendil, though wealthy from developing a spy chip, is motivated to begin a socially responsive Reform Party to counter failing social services. His former colleague Robert Sikes develops nanotech weapons for a secretive military operation, whose members succeed or die. After Ed's son Carl joins it, the family and others are caught in a spiralling intrigue of politics, covert operations, sex, and death, orchestrated by an increasingly insane Sikes.
