Theorizing Anglo-Saxon Stone Sculpture(Medieval European Studies IV Series)

Taken from the International Medieval Congress held in leeds in 1998 these six papers, plus introduction, take a more theoretical approach to studying, interpreting and explaining Anglo-Saxon carved stone monuments. Whilst critiquing traditional stylistic and wholly iconographical approaches, they discuss new ideas and methodologies of assessing Anglo-Saxon sculpture, especially in relation to the Ruthwell and Bewcastle monuments.
