As a lieutenant in the American army stationed in Germany after World War II, Hutler was responsible for the care and repatriation of displaced persons and concentration camp survivors in his area. In this book, he describes his work, including his efforts to combat the anti-Semitism of some of the allied officers and other non-Jewish displaced persons, and the disinterest and insensitivity of officials.
