But Maria is stronger, and aged eleven she takes her family away from Scotland to Strangeways, Manchester in search of a new life. Over the years, Maria grows into a wealthy and powerful woman, but the deep hatred for her father never leaves. She realises that the only way that she will ever find peace will be to face her demons and confront her father. But when she does, she is shocked to find his blood on her hands.
