This book re-evaluates the modern advances of neuroscience through the insights of cybernetics and philosophy. A Universal Theory Of Mind identifies perception as the basis of mind, but understands it as the rich and continuous organisation between a creature and its world. This departs from the established notion that perception and mind belong in the brain. Clearly argued and comprehensive, the theory draws on known structures of the brain to explain the development of our higher human intelligences, including language. Emotion and consciousness are introduced (a fuller explanation of both will be provided in a further volume by the author). The overall aim of the work is to explain what features of mind must be universal for all creatures everywhere.
