The Befana Drama by Gianna Hartwright is a global adventure by broomstick transporting children into the charmed world of VIPBs (Very Important Present Bringers).
Full of mirth, magic and mayhem, witch-dust of the most wondrous kind, Christmas sparkle and larger-than-life characters, this book puts the magic back into the bedtime story.
The Befana Drama takes the tradition of The Befana (Italy's present bringer, said to have once helped The Three Wise Men find the Baby Jesus) and gives it a whole new 21st century dimension.
The Befana is proudly making plans for her present drops and beloved festival when she discovers HER POSTBOX IS BEING SEALED UP AND HER FESTIVAL DOWNSIZED!!! When she hears Santa (to whom she once got engaged at a VIPB conference) is taking over her patch and is now married to Mrs Claus, she flies into a rage that sends candy balls bouncing down the street!
What else is a proud witch supposed to do except look up the descendants of the Three Wise Men (now a boy band in Dubai) and call in a favour centuries old, in order to stockpile enough coal and candy to give to all of the children Santa usually visits?
The wart-ridden witch has to undergo a re-juvenation with Old Father Time and a re-naming as 'Bef', instantly giving her a great disguise and a much cooler personality. She then heads off to visit a fiery broom adaptation artisan, before whizzing through the night skies doing celebratory 'broomies' and visiting Russia, the USA and Iceland, before arriving in Lapland.
Does Bef succeed in her mission and get the better of The Most Fearsome Feller in Folklore, the very vain Capriccia Claus in her Casa of Contentments and the extremely sly 81st elf? Will the help of 'The Three Kings', an exiled-to-Siberia tailor and 'the best reindeer whisperer the world has ever seen' be enough? Can her traditional and simple gifts of coal and candy possibly compete with hi-tech gadgets and gizmos? Only the lucky young reader will find out!
