The purpose of this book is not to outline each and every area on the island which can be construed as a dive site, but rather, to assemble a collection of dive sites representative of a full spectrum of diving abilities. I have also attempted to divulge dive sites not only advantageous to visitors on Maui, but to kama'ainas as well. Finally, I've tried to include spots on all sides of the island; not only in heavily populated tourist areas. All sites are accessible without use of a boat, with the obvious exception of Molokini Crater.

On the inside front cover map of the island of Maui, I've started with Honolulu Bay, one of Maui's most popular and colorful beginner dive and snorkel spots, and continued counter-clockwise around the island listing dive sites along the way. Since Maui's west shore is the most protected from rough seas and high winds, you?ll find the safest diving on this side of the island and early in the book. The south, east and north shores of the island generally consist of more difficult dives due to the rougher sea conditions and delineated later in the book.

Using this book as a guide, you'll be able to experience dive sites previously unheard of by visitors to Maui, Don't abuse it. DIVE SAFELY! - Chuck Thorne
