In the decades since LaSalle's Griffon was lost on Lake Huron, literally hundreds of vessels large and small have met disastrous ends on the Great Lakes and their connecting waterways. Each represents more than a shipwrecks - each is the story of a valiant fight for survival against forces of wind, waves, fog, fire, snow and ice. Marine Publishing here provides a map of the Great Lakes showing locations of shipwrecks with a list of the 100 most noteworthy Great Lakes shipwrecks as determined by size of vessel, loss of life, or circumstances surrounding the loss (only vessels considered a total loss have been included. Those repaired and returned to serviced have been omitted). The first 15 are listed chronologically, the rest, alphabetically. Where available, the number of casualties are also listed.
