Before the Nukes: The Remarkable History of the Area of the Nevada Test Site

After World War II, Congress established a bombing range in southern Nevada, 60 miles north of Las Vegas, for above- ground atomic testing. By the early 1960's all testing moved underground and in recent years Yucca Mountain was tunneled in anticipation of the storage of waste from the nation's nuclear power plants.
