Diagnosis and Stigma of Schizophrenia

The author argues that current diagnostic and treatment regimes for schizophrenia are based on prejudice and misunderstanding. After discussing diagnosis and stigma, he looks at "moral treatment" of mental illness in Europe and America. He recommends an updated version of "moral treatment" and discusses the possibility for self-diagnosis using non-judgmental cluster analysis self-tests on CD-ROMs. Harman is a neurologist and psychiatrist (and he also has a law degree); his book is directed to both professionals and lay people.
