Tweeve Huggins, a Bible-conversant, strong-willed, under-educated woman, chooses to serve as trial counsel for her husband Delaware Huggins after authorities arrest the 4-F, would-be shipyard worker for capital murder. The story, set in the Deep South during World War II and against the backdrop of an "us" and "them" ethic, is more than a murder mystery. It is also a story of a love born of circumstance and shared experiences.
