Civil War Stories of North West Ohio

Thousands of northwest Ohio soldiers, ranging from privates to generals and from drummer boys to spies, heard their country's call during the Civil War and a selection of their stories are told here. Still others served the cause in the halls of government or through the power of the press. And in the quiet waters of Lake Erie's Sandusky Bay, Confederate officer prisoners waited out the war in the Union prison on Johnson's Island, witness at times to the execution of Union soldiers who'd been sentenced to death.
