The Whiskey Eater stories are stories of modern day wranglers (wranglers of consciousness) of men and women who have ridden the illusive dreams of the sixties, the harder realities of the seventies, and the consequence born in the eighties. They are stories of a modern kind of survival: of waitresses, carpenters, and drug dealers. They are stories of common people caught in an uncommon world: somewhere between the illusive past and the residue of that past: the constructs that rivet mistake in place like indelible ink. The Whiskey Eater stories incorporate the present that mistake lives in: a present of single women struggling to raise their children in the midst of the loss that punctuates the modern world and punctuates too the lives of those that investigate that loss and their place in it. Of men married more to whiskey than women: they are stories about loss and despair, and the ever present struggle to endure, all coloured by the backdrop of Wyoming sky. Most of the stories revolve around the community of Wilson, Wyoming, but Evangeline deals with universal themes, and her timeless, rugged characters reveal their hopes, despair, and desperations in vivid, electric prose. The language in these pages is as profound as the Wyoming prairie, and, will transport the reader into a world as provocative as Wyoming herself.
