Soundings: Explorations of Social Work in a Changing Health Care Environment

Soundings offers a series of essays about the challenges facing social work in the continuously changing context of health care provisioning from the 1980s to the early 2000s. Chapter I, “Society Page,” demonstrates through a series of essays, theoretical and practice attempts to cope with these changes. Chapter II, “Tools for Professional Leadership,” presents attempts to make operational the concepts developed in the first chapter. The therapeutic functions of social work in discharge planning and long-term care are framed with clear emphasis on the task within a clearly defined therapeutic function. A social work perspective on organizational ethics is also addressed. Suggestions for documentation and data collection are included.
