About the Authors
Dr. Carolan was born in Melbourne, Australia and is a pediatrician in private practice on the island of Kaua'i, Hawaii. Joanna F. Carolan was born in San Francisco, California. She is an artist and owner of Banana Patch Studio, an art studio and gallery on Kaua'i. Together, they have produced four highly acclaimed books for children; Ten Days in Hawaii, A Counting Book, B is for Beach, An Alphabet Book, Where are My Slippers? A Book of Colors, and Goodnight Hawaiian Moon.
Willie K has been performing for audiences since the age of 10, when he began his musical career playing with his father, Hawaiian jazz legend Manu Kahaiali'i. A Grammy Award nominee for Best Hawaiian Music Album and winner of several Na Hoku Hanohano Awards, he is a versatile singer, songwriter and producer, and has toured internationally. He is also regarded among his peers as possessing one of the largest musical vocabularies of any recording artist in the world.
Eric Gilliom was the first person of Hawaiian ancestry to graduate from Chicago's prestigious Goodman School of Performing Arts. He is an accomplished performer with a long list of television,film and stage credits and comes from a talented family of performers. His sister is well-known Hawaiian singer, Amy Hanaiali'i Gilliom and his late grandmother, Jennie "Napua" Woodd, choreographed and starred in over 200 Hollywood films and TV shows.
Barefoot Natives is the collaborative effort of these two remarkable and multi-talented performers. Their debut album, the self-titled Barefoot Natives, won a 2007 Na Hoku Hanohano Award for Best Contemporary Hawaiian Album.
