Legends of Ur

"Even if the search for truth is not the highest call, there is only honesty to lead us through the uncertain" begins one of POWilson's 21 poems in his book titled, "Legends of Ur". Based on the myths that Abram and Sarah, of the Hebrew Bible, carried forward and added to after they left their home in Sumer, Mesopotamia, this collection is a starting point for those who remember those stories from their childhood. Many of Wilson's poems can be found in his nonfiction book titled, "On the Side of a Fish" where he writes clearly about ancient stories, handed down over the centuries and documented by people who did not know all that we know in our current times:

certain knowledge is what we want from religion,
and the baby wants milk that comes at a glance

my legs walk steadily now,
to a place where all of this is history and mostly myth

the tale of two brothers,
the good one and the bad,
Cain and Abel, Jesus and the Devil,
Israel and Judea, Christian and Jew,
believers and atheists,
perfect divinity and absolute evil,
always a right brother and a wrong,
completely off or on, up or down,
ever both or neither,
day or night,
no dusk, no dawn, no question,
heaven above, hell below,
ever high, ever low,
God's novel played out in physical form the end already known
