A chronicle of the thirteen University of Alabama football teams to be designated as the nation's best. Bama's first national title team, the 1925 squad, gave the state of Alabama and the entire Southland, which had never recovered from the ravages of the Civil War, something to cheer about when they upset a heavily favored Washington team in the 1926 Rose Bowl. Coach Wallace Wade won national titles three times in his eight years at the Capstone. Legendary coach Paul "Bear" Bryant was an outstanding player on the 1934 national championship squad, and he later coached the Crimson Tide to six more national crowns. Bryant's protégé, Gene Stallings, used a stifling defense to upset a cocky, arrogant Miami team led by Heisman Trophy winning quarterback Gino Torretta to earn the 1992 national title. Coach Nick Saban used a stifling defense and ball control offense featuring Heisman winning running back Mark Ingram to win Bama's thirteenth title in 2009. This is a great read for anyone interested in the rich tradition of the Alabama Crimson Tide.
