Frank Howard won more games than any other coach in Clemson history in his 30 years as the head coach of the Tigers. His 1948 team was the first Clemson team to compile a perfect record since John Heisman's Tigers compiled a 6 — 0 record in 1900.

Besides his outstanding coaching record, Coach Howard was known for his keen sense of humor and his loyalty to his former players, assistant coaches and Clemson University.
