A thirty year old transplant from upstate New York—possibly part Native American—finds himself homeless in New York City through drug use, a failed art career, and failed relationships. He's known to his street pals as Jake Soho. To help pass the time he starts following people, role-playing being a private detective because of a fascination with noir books and movies. One of his tail jobs leads to a real mystery, involving a trio of young folks and a French sociologist, Paul Louis Boucher. Jake Soho now has real purpose and, to solve the riddle, ends up traveling to other streetscapes. At an unlikely locale far from the streets of New York City, he saves the day. Or does he really? In any case, he's now clean from drugs and likes this detective thing. At a Native casino he overhears a suspicious conversation—the start of another strange journey?
