The Rose upon the Rood of Time

From the dark, a formless woman on a faceless horse comes to Wren, a diffident highland boy. He knows nothing of who she is or why she seeks him. He knows only the law of the Grael King in the new common era. He knows only that north and south have been divided, and a charter of rights and freedoms proclaimed. He knows only the need to work the earth to survive.

After failed revolts against both the Graelish Court and the Spiral, his family has withdrawn into the north, to the foot of the Greenmen, where his parents are haunted by their pasts. The struggle is older and deeper than Wren understands.
