The Perfect Season is the fictional story of a high school football team that seeks and finds excellence amid the turmoil of growing up, led by a dynamic and controversial coach with a questionable past. It is based on the 1954 season of the Churchland High School Truckers, located in the suburbs of Portsmouth, Virginia. During that season, the Truckers were unbeaten, untied, and unscored upon, a feat seldom repeated.
