Gathering Goodness: A Book of the Inspirations and the Process of Creating the Gathering Goodness Mosaic: 108 Paintings in 108 Days

In December 2012, when Susan York was diagnosed with Stage 3C Ovarian Cancer, she sat in a doctor’s office and he told her, she had to have surgery in 8-10 days to remove a tumor the size of a wine bottle or prepare to die. Susan was terrified, so she asked everyone she knew to pray or send good thoughts to her envisioning her whole, complete and healthy.

After her surgery with the tumor removed, Susan had a prolonged miraculous sensation. "I was able to physically feel all those prayers and good thoughts coming to me from around the world. I felt held in the hand of God" said York.

"I was overwhelmed by the PEACE, JOY and LOVE I felt."

York wanted to find a way to give back to those who had shared their energy and kindness with her in her time of need.

Susan York, an artist, decided to create a mosaic of 108 paintings that would be a manifestation of the energy she felt after her surgery. York wanted to reflect the positive feelings in the world. She chose 108 to reflect the number of beads on a mala, which are used to count during times of prayer & meditation. To magnify her intention, York crowd sourced inspirations of peace, love and joy in the form of images, music, videos and stories as well as crowdfunding for the supplies she needed through a kickstarter campaign. "I was overwhelmed with gratitude at the magnitude of response from around the world, " says York.

And thus the Gathering Goodness Mosaic was born, it now lives in hospitals to inspire others and parts of it will eventually rest in the homes of its backers.
