Your Affectionate Son, Charlie Mac

This Civil War diary, preserved in the collection of the Martha's Vineyard Museum, is the personal journey of ""Charlie Mac,"" who was eighteen on August 29, 1862, when he left Edgartown with seven other volunteers to join the Union Army. Over the next three years, the journals and letters follow his travels south to Virginia, South Carolina, Florida, and back to Virginia for the final advance on Richmond, before he returns to his ""home by the sea.""
