Home Town Folks

We all know Bill. Heck, most of us are kin to him-he's a favorite uncle who our mama urges us to stay away from lest we hear bad words and pick up unsavory habits. True, he still smokes unfiltered Camel cigarettes, but since finding Jesus he's trying mightily to quit cussing and drinking. His fancy for "George Dickel" is not making his life any easier, even if he has given his heart to the Lord.
Pine Log, Georgia is a place to experience. Maybe we never lived there in reality yet we remember the town, the people, the stories. We all knew the old maid who loved expensive perfume and red lipstick, the good-natured man, boy really, who was just a little off kilter, and the aggrieved father and his no-account son. Pine Log does not suffer to molly-coddle. Its citizens are raw and real and linger in the brain for a good long time. Such is the substance of Delilah O'Haynes' Home Town Folks and we are the better for having been there.
