Dave Rose was a native-born New Yorker turned Alaskan who became the first director of the Alaska Permanent Fund, where he played a crucial role in managing the multi-billion-dollar savings account created by voters after discovery of oil at Prudhoe Bay. Rose loved to tell stories. His childhood experiences were reminiscent of a Neil Simon play – warm and witty stories about an irrepressible Jewish boy from the Bronx. Rose moves to Anchorage with his bride, Fran. He takes a beating in a white-knuckle political brawl over civil rights. That was the end of his local political career, but not the end of his public service.
