The Finnegans are on their way west to Buffalo on the Erie Canal and so is Rose. The year is 1841. The setting is New York State and the Erie Canal.
Needing a cook aboard the boat when Aunt Cora has her baby early, Uncle Dermot invites Rose to go along with the cousins on the canal boat. Rose eagerly looks forward to the trip and seeing Syracuse (salt city), the Montezuma Swamp, Rochester (flour city), the famous locks at Lockport, and Niagara Falls, a new attraction.
Part way into the trip, Rose must handle some challenging occurrences that broaden her mind-set. Then she truly begins to comprehend how to conquer her fears just by choosing to do the fearful things whether she wants to or not.
Another Erie Canal adventure for Rose, Charles, Bridget and the Finnegans on the Flying Eagle, this is the last book of five in the Erie Canal Cousins Series.
